Endoscopic Surgery

Endoscopy means "looking inside" and typically refers to looking inside the body for medical reasons using an endoscope, an instrument used to examine the interior of a hollow organ or cavity of the body.

Laparoscopic surgery, also called minimally invasive surgery or keyhole surgery is a modern surgical technique in which operations in the abdomen are performed through small incisions (usually 0.5–1.5 cm) as compared to the larger incisions needed in open surgeries. A thin fiberoptic camera(laparoscope) is introduced into the abdominal cavity through the small openings and images are displayed on a HD monitor. Specially designed instruments also can be introduced similarly and perform different surgeries by a skilled laparoscopic surgeon.

There are a number of advantages to the patient with laparoscopic surgery. These include:
  • Low blood loss
  • Smaller incision and scar
  • Less pain
  • Faster recovery
  • Early mobility for the patient
  • Low risk for post operative infection
  • Shorter duration of hospital stay
  • Faster return to day to day activities
